- Meridian Oncology clinical team
A new generation of cancer treatment, now available at home.
Pembrolizumab is not chemotherapy. It is an immune checkpoint inhibitor - a treatment that helps your own immune system recognise and destroy cancer cells. Rather than attacking the body broadly, it removes a molecular "brake" that cancer uses to hide from your T cells, allowing your immune system to fight back.
Pembrolizumab can now be given as a quick subcutaneous injection - taking one to two minutes - rather than an intravenous infusion that can last over an hour. Clinical trials have confirmed both routes deliver equivalent outcomes. For suitable patients, this makes receiving care at home practical and clinically safe.
Whether it is appropriate for any individual is always a decision for a qualified oncologist, made on the basis of your specific diagnosis and health.
- Targets PD-1 to unlock your immune system's ability to fight cancer
- Given as a 1–2 minute subcutaneous injection
- Typically every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on cancer type
- Licensed across more than 20 cancer types
- Same clinical outcome as hospital infusion, at home
What the clinical data shows.
Pembrolizumab has transformed outcomes for many patients. Here is what published trial data shows for those who are eligible.
Five-year survival rates more than doubled in eligible patients
In certain cancers with high PD-L1 expression, pembrolizumab produced more than twice the five-year survival rate compared with chemotherapy alone, according to published KEYNOTE trial data.
Some patients achieve lasting remission for 5 years or more
Clinical trials have shown durable responses maintained for five years or longer in some patients - a level of long-term disease control that is rarely seen with traditional chemotherapy.
A 1-2 minute injection at home delivers the same outcome as a hospital visit
The subcutaneous route takes 1-2 minutes, compared with up to 60 for a hospital infusion. Published trials confirm both produce equivalent clinical results.
These outcomes are not guaranteed for every patient. Eligibility depends on cancer type, PD-L1 expression, and individual health factors. Whether pembrolizumab could be appropriate for you is always a clinical decision made by a qualified oncologist based on your specific situation. Is the eligibility questionnaire free?
Yes. The questionnaire is completely free and carries no obligation. It is simply how we find out whether at-home pembrolizumab could be appropriate for your situation.
What happens after I submit the questionnaire?
A qualified oncologist reviews your answers. We then invite you to book a free Welcome Call, where we explain what the review found, walk you through the process, and discuss costs openly - all before any decision is made.
Who reviews my questionnaire?
A GMC-registered consultant oncologist. Suitability is a clinical matter and is always assessed by a qualified specialist, not by our administrative team.
Is the Welcome Call really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the Welcome Call and no obligation to proceed. It is there to make sure you have a clear picture of the process and the costs before you decide anything.
How much does treatment cost?
Costs vary depending on the treatment cycle and your individual case. We explain them openly and in full during your Welcome Call - before you make any commitment.
Is this a replacement for my NHS care?
No. This service works alongside your existing NHS care. We would always encourage you to keep your NHS oncology team informed, and our consultants can liaise with them where appropriate.
